2011 Scottish Seed Event

This years seed event will take place on Saturday the 19th of February between 1-3pm..

The location is in the Old, Parish Church Hall, Glebe Street, East Kilbride. 5 minutes walk from the bus and train station.

There will be thousands of packets of vegetable seeds (some very unusual ones) to give away.

Entry is as usual free and we hope to see as many scottish gardeners attend as possible .

We had 130 people at our first event last year and would hope to have many more this year.

Forget those seed catalogues, come and get your seeds free here and help start a local seed saving group in your town.

There will be many other interesting stalls from the local area.

Please print a poster and put it up at your allotment or gardening club:  Seed Swap Poster

Seed Exchange Plots

Working in partenership with South Lanarkshire Council, they have kindly granted us the use of derelict land on which to set up the seed exchange plots. The site is about 3/4 of an acre and will allow us do develop the seed for the project and grow plants for our range of local school projects.

The plots will be developed over the coming months. If you are interested in helping out as a volunteer or learning some hands on gardening, please contact us:

About this site

Scotlands Seed Saving Network

This website has now launched to gather together and, and develop seed saving groups throughout Scotland.

This page is a placeholder and the full site will go live at the end of January 2011!

The network, will allow gardeners, allotment groups and smallholders growing food in Scotland, to develop seed sharing groups and gain expertise.

This will enable greater food sovereignty of growing resources and will facilitate the redevelopment of locally adapted strains of vegetables.

The ground work for this has been piloted over the last two years in  by the East Kilbride Development Trust.

Our seed events will provide many free packets of open pollinated seeds (many heritage varieties) and seed saving information.

We will also be looking to recruit seed saving groups from across Scotland to bolster existing networks in their own areas.

Any groups currently saving vegetable seed, or wishing to start, are welcome to contact us and we would hope to be of assistance.

Free seed talks and full day seed saving courses can be provided to groups across Scotland
